Tonight's issue of The London Paper features an article about pornography addiction, along with a brief interview with me. I touch on my own experience of addiction, and list a few basic tips for dealing with the habit.

It's great to see the mainstream press raising the profile of the porn addiction issue with a positive and practical approach. This really does help break down the stigma that surrounds the subject.

It's great to see the mainstream press raising the profile of the porn addiction issue with a positive and practical approach. This really does help break down the stigma that surrounds the subject. The message boils down to this: a compulsive porn habit is massively common, you are not alone, and here's one way out. Let's look forward to seeing more treatment like this.

The problem with Porn

Submitted by Ivan Ratoyevsky on Fri, 28/03/2008 - 13:08

The problem with Porn Addiction is that the most commonly used tool to access pornography is the PC (the computer) and we now live in a digital world were computers are in every work place, every shop, every home, every hotel, even on planes. So access to porn websites is just a few clicks away, its a breeze to get access. And there are now literally thousands of porn related websites out there on the internet. Its so big, & the supply so vast its like a sea of porn it appears endless.

**Also we now live in an image obsessed society were porn is so common, its become integrated into so many aspects of our lives we almost dont notice it any more. I'm NOT talking about overt pornography more how sexualized imagery is now every where you look or go. Sexualized imagery is used on TV, in music videos, in magazines, in womens magazines, its used as a tool of capitolism & consummerism to keep us buying products & services. No individual is immune from the effects of this mass imagery. But only now are we beginning to start to see how it can negatively affect people (mainly men).

I've been struggling with

Submitted by Craig on Mon, 31/03/2008 - 15:28

I've been struggling with porn for ages now and it's really getting me down. In the morning, I wake up and tell myself that today is going to be different, but every day follows the same pattern. It doesn't help when you work from home. I saw the newspaper report and came to this site and it gives me hope. I dont feel on my own with this thing. Thank you

Craig my heart goes out to

Craig my heart goes out to you, I feel so much for you. I can really relate to what yours saying about your self and your situation. Being at home and with internet access via a PC only makes it more lonely.

Using Porn IS by its nature a lonely experience. No! the reality is that porn use is now at epidemic levels in 2008 and its only sites like this that can help us begin to regain a sense that my habit is only one struggle against a tide, no! a literal TSUNAMI OF PORN.

Your DEFINITELY NOT ALONE, Porn is something that is a problem because we (I) often felt unable to talk about it safely, without feeling ashamed, without feeling judged, without feeling that I was a bad person. Let me tell you right now just because you are struggling (inwardly) with your porn use doesn't make you a bad person.

Please be reassured when I tell you that you can change, you can let go of your porn habit, I recently managed to release myself for a long standing porn habit. If I can do it Craig I'm sure you can too (I'm nobody special just an ordinary bloke).

Alex.
